UNIT CLERK I/II                                                                                                

MEDICAL SURGICAL DEPARTMENT                                                           

RATE $16.835-$23.378

FLSA Status:  Non-Exempt

 PRINCIPAL JOB DUTIES:

UNIT CLERK I

  • Receives and directs patients, visitors, and hospital staff arriving at the nursing unit in a friendly courteous manner
  • Performs unit related clerical functions including answering telephone, maintenance of forms, supplies, records, mail, filing, and other assigned duties
  • Prepares and maintains charts for all patients assigned to unit
  • Reviews medical record documentation and notifies appropriate staff when not completed in accordance with hospital standards
  • Coordinates activities of nursing with other departments to deliver quality patient care
  • Transcribes physician orders, and orders appropriate services for patients
  • Relays patient information and messages for examinations, treatments, surgery, clinical procedures and test results to appropriate staff and departments
  • Maintains accurate patient census and notifies appropriate departments of admissions, transfers, and discharges
  • Performs other duties as assigned

  • Relays patient information and messages for examinations, treatments, surgery, clinical procedures and test results to appropriate staff and departments
  • Maintains accurate patient census and notifies appropriate departments of admissions, transfers, and discharges
  • Performs other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

UNIT CLERK I

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • BLS required
  • Minimum one year hospital or medical office experience as receptionist, unit clerk, certified nursing assistant, or licensed vocational nurse
  • NAHUC certification within one year of hire
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Demonstrated ability to read, write, and effectively communicate in English
  • Working knowledge of the use and applications of computers
  • Capable of performing position related physical requirements

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

UNIT CLERK II

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • BLS required
  • Minimum two years hospital or medical office experience as receptionist, unit clerk, certified nursing assistant, or licensed vocational nurse
  • NAHUC certification
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Demonstrated ability to read, write, and effectively communicate in English
  • Working knowledge of the use and applications of computers
  • Capable of performing position related physical requirements
