When you need assistance recovering from illness, injury (including sports injuries), or surgery, MCDH offers a team approach to get you on the road to recovery. Our skilled therapists and wellness experts can address all of your rehabilitation needs. We provide individualized treatments for both our hospitalized patients and outpatients.

Physical Therapy

Our Physical Therapists

Our physical therapists work with you and your physician to develop a plan of care to maximize strength and independence. Some common conditions we provide therapy for:

  • Joint replacement surgery; pre and post surgical
  • Stroke

Meet our Team

Sarah Wagner, PT, DPT – Sarah is the manager of all MCDH rehabilitation and wellness services, provides inpatient and outpatient orthopedic physical therapy, teaches the pre-joint replacement class, and leads a Pilates mat class. She continues to pursue education in the fields of orthopedic and vestibular rehabilitation. Sarah received her Doctor of Physical Therapy from the University of Montana and her Masters from University of Maryland. She enjoys nature photography and singing in local musical productions.

Michelle Parel, PT – Michelle is our lead inpatient PT, and is often the first therapist patients see after surgery. She continues to pursue advanced training for treatment of complex medical conditions including stroke. She received her PT degree from the University of Santo Tomas in the Philippines, and has been licensed in the U.S. for more than 5 years. Her interests include choral music with her church, and preparing food for family gatherings.

Lucinda Weaver, PT – Lucinda, our primary outpatient therapist, has a Master’s Degree from the University of Southern California. She originally practiced PT in New York City at a sports and orthopedic center specializing in the treatment of athletes and dancers and specializes in treating sports and spine injuries. Her previous experience includes over 10 years working in New York City in a sports and orthopedic outpatient center. Lucinda is a professional dancer, and continues to choreograph and perform internationally.

Peter McCann, PT – Peter works with both inpatients and outpatients at MCDH. Peter has specialized training in Osteopathic Manual Physical Therapy. He received his Master’s degree in Physical Therapy from Stanford University. Peter is a skilled woodworker who makes fine furniture and craftsman pieces.

Occupational Therapy

Our Occupational Therapists and Occupational Therapy Assistant treat patients with a broad range of physical, developmental, and cognitive conditions. OTs provide instruction in activities of daily living (ADLs) to promote maximum independence. Some areas of focus:

  • Self care (bathing, dressing, hygiene)
  • Home safety evaluations and home modification recommendations
  • Energy conservation education and pacing techniques
  • Medical equipment recommendations (wheelchairs, bathroom modifications)
  • Transfers and fall prevention
  • Ergonomics

  • Health and Wellness

Meet Our OT Team:

Sarah Mechling, MS OTR/L is our Occupational Therapist whose specialties include hand therapy, wheelchair referrals, and ergonomics. Sarah treats patients who have had hand surgery including carpal tunnel, tendon release, or other hand injuries. She makes custom splints. She received her masters in Occupational Therapy from Dominican University of California. Sarah enjoys gardening, kayaking, time with her family, and travel.

Donna Schuler, COTA, (Occupational Therapy Assistant) – Donna provides inpatient OT treatments, is the MCDH Wellness Coordinator, and Activity Director for our Swing Bed program. She recently began teaching yoga for the Wellness Program. Donna received her AS in Occupational Therapy from Erie Community College, and her BA in Business Management from Dominican University of California. She enjoys being outside for sailing, hiking, and family vacations.

Jeff Perkins ATC, Rehabilitation Services Aide – Jeff is a Certified Athletic Trainer who received his BA in Kinesiology with an emphasis on Athletic Training from the University of Nevada at Los Vegas. Prior to joining our team at MCDH, Jeff worked with a Sports Medicine Team for professional, collegiate, and high school athletes. In his free time Jeff enjoys fitness, sports, family, coaching and pursing continuing education for career development.

Jerri Mihos, Unit Coordinator – Jerri has more than 20 years experience at MCDH in registration, patient relations and communications. She is skilled with insurance, billing, medical records, and office management. She acts as a patient care advocate, and volunteers for our NODA ( No One Dies Alone) program at MCDH. She does her best to accommodate each patient who comes to us for therapy. In her free time she enjoys gardening, time with family, and creative writing.

Speech Therapy

Our Speech Therapists address problems in communication, speech and swallowing. This may involve language understanding and use, speech production, oral motor abilities, Augmentative and Assistive Communication (AAC) devices, Modified Barium Swallow (MBS) studies, and safe swallowing skills. Some conditions that speech therapists commonly treat include:

  • Stroke
  • Head or neck cancer
  • Brain injury
  • Parkinson’s disease
  • Pediatric Speech and Language

Meet our speech therapists:

Cynthia Audo, MA, CCC-SLP – In addition to being a certified Speech and Language Pathologist, Cynthia has advanced training in swallowing disorders and AAC device selection and implementation. Cynthia also works with school age children and is an SLP with the Fort Bragg Unified School District. She received her Masters Degree in Speech and Language Pathology from the University of Colorado at Boulder. Outside of work you can find Cynthia keeping active running, hiking, acting, tending to her small farm and generally enjoying life with her daughter and husband.

Kristen Kronfeld MA, CCC-SLP – In addition to being a certified Speech and Language Pathologist, Kristen specializes in AAC. She has advanced AAC training as well as several years experience with AAC evaluation and implementation. She has a B.A. From SFSU & M.S. From NAU. Asha certified, with division 12 affiliate. Interdisciplinary Certificate in Disability Policy & Practice, AAC specialist. School based, clinical and hospital experience. Kristen is also works with school age children in the Mendocino Unified School district. Kristen received her Masters in Speech and Language Pathology from the University of Arizona.

A Class to Prepare You for Orthopedic Surgery and Post Surgery Recovery

Having hip or knee replacement surgery? Our pre-surgery class will help you understand what to expect and offer tips on preparing for and recovering from the surgery.

This one-hour class is for patients of Drs. Bill Rohr and Jack Bellah and will help prepare you for your hip or knee replacement surgery. The class covers:

  • What to expect with your total joint surgery
  • A home exercise program
  • How to make your home safer
  • Helpful recovery information
