Lisa Wolfe, Ph.D., CNP, joins the MCDH Oncology Program.
Lisa Wolfe, Ph.D, CNP, has recently begun working with the MCDH Oncology Program in close conjunction with Dr. Jan Kirsch, local Medical Oncologist. Wolfe is an Oncology Nurse Practitioner, whose interest in working closely with and caring for cancer patients has brought her to our community from Toledo, Ohio.
With more than 25 years of nursing experience, Wolfe sees cancer patients who come in for follow-up visits, those who develop non-emergency, acute problems, and those who need any type of education. She supervises chemotherapy treatments in the Hospital’s Infusion Center, and works closely with Dr. Kirsch in her private practice setting.
“What I love most about my job are the people that I get to work with. I get to provide emotional, spiritual and physical care to patients, and in this setting, I get to spend as much time as needed with the patients and their families,” said Wolfe.
Wolfe received her Masters of Science in Oncology Nursing at Case Western Reserve University in Ohio, and her Ph.D. in the Department of Health Promotion and Human Performance from the University of Toledo, Ohio. In addition, she holds several certifications, including Adult Nurse Practitioner and Advanced Oncology Certified Nurse.
Wolfe has more than 10 years of teaching experience, most recently as Associate Professor of Nursing at the Medical College of Ohio School of Nursing. She is also a Captain of the Nurse Corps for the US Navy Reserves.
As part of her service in the US Navy Reserves, Wolfe has recently been named Commanding Officer for a humanitarian medical mission to be undertaken this summer. She will be in charge of 125 people providing care to people who have no access to medical care in two African nations. Her group will be providing general medical care, health education, eye and dental care in a different village during each day of the mission.
Wolfe is excited to have joined our community, noting that the closeness to nature, the mountains and ocean were key factors in her decision to relocate. Wolfe added, “I have felt welcomed by everyone I’ve met here, and this area already feels like home.”
