Dr. Joseph Fleming
Dr. Joseph Fleming, M.D., is a Board Certified Ophthalmologist with more than 17 years of experience in corneal, refractive and cataract surgery. He recently relocated to Fort Bragg from Roseville, CA.
Dr. Fleming received his medical degree from the University of California San Francisco, and completed his internship at St. Mary’s Medical Center in San Francisco. He then completed his residency in Ophthalmology at the University of California San Diego, and held the position of Chief Resident during his final year of residency.
Dr. Fleming’s specialties include anterior segment surgery, including corneal transplantation and cataract surgery, and refractive surgery, including incisional procedures, LASIK and Intacs (Intrastromal Corneal Ring), a refractive surgical procedure designed to correct nearsightedness. Eyelid surgery to improve vision, relieve eye tiredness, and to improve appearance rounds out Dr. Fleming’s surgical services.
A pioneering researcher in the development of the Intacs, Dr. Fleming has trained surgeons in the Intacs and LASIK procedures throughout Europe, Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Canada and the U.S. He also played a key role in the development of the picosecond laser and incisional refractive surgery techniques.
In his office, Dr. Fleming performs routine eye exams for glasses, and treats many eye diseases and medical eye problems, including glaucoma, macular degeneration, eye infections, eye injuries, and a variety of retinal diseases.
