Nurses Week is May 6-12; Hospital and Healthcare Week is May 8-14

The theme for this year’s celebration of National Nurses Week is “Nurses: Many Roles, One Profession.” Nurses Week begins on May 6 – National Nurses Day – and ends on May 12, which is modern nursing founder Florence Nightingale’s birthday.

Nurses are responsible for much of the bedside patient care that takes place in hospitals. Nurses at MCDH are known for their caring attitudes, their understanding of patients, and their high level of competence in providing patient care. Patient satisfaction surveys consistently rank our nurses in the top 25% of hospitals nationwide for their understanding and caring.

Multiple activities are planned for MCDH nurses during this year’s Nurses Week celebration. “This is our chance to celebrate the critical role that nurses play in the health of our community,” says Marg Murray, Chief of Patient Care Services.

National Hospital and Healthcare Week is May 8-14, and has the theme of “A Calling to Care.” This celebration recognizes the wide array of professionals who take our health care system to new heights of excellence. National Hospital Week began in 1921, and acknowledges the work of hospitals and their impact on the communities in which they are located.

These recognition events allow the hospital and the community to thank all of our health care professionals who follow the “calling to care,” and who touch the lives of patients and their families, making a positive difference in the health of our community.
