Distinguished eye care medical specialist, Dr. Kevin Miller, brings a practice to the North Coast Family Health Center (NCFHC) that has greatly improved the quality of care local residents receive without having to leave home.
Native Of Healdsburg
“As a native of Healdsburg, it has been a pleasure to return to Northern California to live close to my parents and to my brother and sister in Santa Rosa,” says Miller. “My wife and I are happy to be living in the beautiful north coast.” He proudly notes that his wife is a teacher who taught economics and humanities at the International School of Tanganyika the last two years, and that the couple has a beautiful baby girl.
Dr. Miller came here directly from Dar es Salaam, Tanzania where he worked at a modern charity eye hospital. “I was there for two-and-a-half years and worked with adults and children, with each clinic- and operating room-day full of challenging cases as we tried to keep up with the large number of patients,” he recalls. “I will always be grateful for the professional opportunity to work there and treat patients and for the wonderful experiences we had living and traveling there.”
Reducing Need For Patients Driving to Santa Rosa
“In Fort Bragg, I enjoy collaborating with the other eye care and primary care providers and specialists who have been caring for the community for many years,” continues Miller. “Additionally, I work closely with the ophthalmology subspecialists in Sonoma County to decrease, when possible, the need for the long drive to Santa Rosa, and when not feasible, to make sure that there is close communication between the subspecialists and myself.”
“I am a general ophthalmologist seeing adults and children in my Fort Bragg practice,” says Miller. “I welcome any pediatric patients or adult patients. I am fluent in Spanish, having studied and lived abroad for a number of years.”
Extensive Overseas Experience
Dr. Miller has spent much of his career providing medical and surgical care to patients with problems of the eye. He has worked at Comprehensive Community Based Rehabilitation in Tanzania (CCBRT), Dar es Salaam, Tanzania; the Kabgayi Eye Hospital, Rwanda; and Centro de la Vision Douglas Perry, San Pedro Sula, Honduras.
Dr. Miller received his MD from Tufts University School of Medicine, Boston. He completed an Internship in Internal Medicine at the University of Texas Medical Branch, Galveston, where he also did his Residency in Ophthalmology. He also completed a Fellowship in Pediatric Ophthalmology at Los Angeles Children’s Hospital, University of Southern California.
Dr. Miller is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology.
