I always look forward to my Adopt a CEO Day, or as some have called it “Bring Your CEO to Work” Day. This week I spent an entire day working with our Case Managers, Phil Sullivan, Kitty Bruning and Ann Marie Cesario. I soon learned that Case Managers hold the keys to helping our hospital patients (and their families and loved ones) make it through the , sometimes difficult, maze of services offered by our hospital. They are also invaluable members of the team in assisting our doctors and nurses to accomplish their jobs. It is not unusual for a patient to receive services in our Emergency Department, ICU, Medical/Surgical Unit and even our Swing beds. All in one stay! So it takes careful coordination and an incredible repertoire of skills to assist in all of these areas. (more…)

MCDH “Star” Card Employee of the Month
—Posted Tuesday, July 26th, 2011 at 7:57 pm—
Meet Rick Chilton, MCDH “Star” Card Employee of the Month for June 2011. The “Star” Card program at Mendocino Coast District Hospital allows patients, guests, visitor, physicians, volunteers and employees to nominate MCDH employees who exemplify the spirit of compassionate care and customer service. Rick is a very good example of such an employee. In recent months he has received “Star” card recognition for going the extra step for our patients and visitors. One patient said that when dealing with Rick, “I felt like I was dealing with a ‘healing hospital.'” Another patient said that Rick assembled a medical record request in less than 24 hours and that “he is a real pro!” Congratulations Rick. This honor is very well deserved.
April MCDH Star Card of the Month
—Posted Monday, May 2nd, 2011 at 11:45 am—
Our patients, guests and visitors may, or may not, know that Mendocino Coast District Hospital has a system in place to recognize excellence in the care and services provided by our Hospital staff. The system is called the “Star” Card program. Any of us, including patients, visitors, physicians, co-workers or volunteers, may recognize excellence by picking up a Star Card in any of the convenient locations and filling out the name of the employee to be honored and why. Each month we receive between 20-40 cards for our staff. Every time a Star Card is received, a copy is given to the honored employee, their manager and Human Resources. All Star Cards are posted on a bulletin board outside of the Hospital Cafeteria each month by Tanya Wyldflower. Beginning in April, we are selecting 1 Star Card each month for the “MCDH Star Card of the Month.” The Star Card of the Month will be based upon extraordinary excellence. For April, we have selected Deb Hendricks, ICU Charge Nurse. In her nomination, written by the visitor of an ICU patient, “Deb is an excellent nurse. Very caring. Took care of my Aunt. Always explained in detail with her care and prognosis. Thanks Deb.” Thank you Deb for the wonderful care that you provide to our ICU patients every day!
Good Luck Sandy!

Last week Mendocino Coast District Hospital staff showed up in a big way to wish one of our own, Sandy Lowe, a fond farewell and a Happy Retirement. Sandy has been a fixture at MCDH and in our Cardiology Department for 30 years! I personally am going to miss her warm smile, her gentle and calming influence and the stories that she loves to tell about those things that are most important to her – her family and her horses. We are going to miss you Sandy! I wish you all the best for a very happy future in retirement.
MCDH Employee of the Quarter
—Posted Tuesday, December 15th, 2009 at 8:35 pm—
Congratulations to MCDH Employee of the Quarter, Marte Tubbs. Marte works in the hospital’s Materials Management Department – among other departments. What’s great about Marte is her attitude about work. She is well known around our hospital for her willingness to learn many jobs. In recent years, she has been a ward clerk, an administrative assistant for nursing, a medical records clerk in our Family Health Center. She realizes that it makes her more valuable when she is able to perform multiple different jobs and do them all very well. In baseball terms, she is a “utility player.” She was recognized by her peers this month because, besides being a jack of all trades, she performs every job the same. With a smile and a great attitude and a genuine desire to help anyone that needs help. That includes patients, visitors and other employees. She is also usually one of the first employees to volunteer for events such as the Annual Lighted Truck Parade, or our Annual Paul Bunyan Days parade. Congratulations to Marte. Our MCDH Employee of the Quarter! You are very deserving of this honor.
