Our Cardiology Dept. offers a full range of non-invasive diagnostic Cardiology procedures including: stress testing, electrocardiography, 24 hr Holter monitoring and echocardiography.

Our echocardiography lab is accredited by the Intersocietal Commission for the Accreditation of Echocardiography Laboroatories (ICAEL). In fact, we were the first lab in Mendocino, Sonoma, Lake and Humboldt counties, to achieve this distinct level of quality. In a written statement announcing the accreditation, the ICAEL Technical director, Beverly Gorman wrote: “Mendocino Coast District Hospital is one of a growing number of echocardiography laboratories in the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico to be so recognized for its commitment to high quality patient care and its provision of quality diagnostic testing.”

We have a highly skilled and trained technical staff. Our department Medical Director, Jason Kirkman, MD, is credentialed by the National Board of Echocardiography with Special Competence in Adult Echocardiography.

Our Echosonograher, Reid Patterson, is certified by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers, as a Register Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer. Additionally, this year, we added a full time Registered Nurse, Sue Sisk, RN, to complement our excellent team.

The Mendocino Coast Hospital Foundation graciously provided the funding to fully upgrade our lab with a state of the art digital echocardiograph machine and workstation. This equipment allows our team to visualize the heart in amazing detail, allowing Dr Kirkman to provide an extremely comprehensive report of the structure and function of the patient’s heart.

In addition to our echocardiography equipment, we purchased a new stress testing workstation that is also top of the line. Our department provides several cardiac stress testing modalities including: exercise treadmill, exercise and dobutamine echocardiography, and exercise and adenosine myocardial perfusion imaging.

A commitment to excellence in the provision of our service is our standard of care.
