MCDH Continues Local Uninsured Resident Discount Policy For Those Who Pay For Outpatient Elective Services Out Of Their Own Pockets
Eligible Residents May Receive Up To 50% Discount On Certain Outpatient Services
FORT BRAGG, Calif. — June 14, 2010 —In a move to help local residents during the continuing recession, the Mendocino Coast District Hospital Board of Directors recently approved a continuation of the hospital’s Local Resident Discount Policy. The discount policy is designed to help persons residing in the Mendocino Coast Health Care District who do not have health insurance coverage, and applies only to local residents who pay for services out of their own pockets.
“Many of our local residents are under significant stress during this economic downturn,” says MCDH CEO Ray Hino. “By continuing our discount policy for local residents, we can help alleviate some of the financial strain associated with their hospital-related healthcare services.”
Under the policy all outpatient elective services — except Emergency Room, Ambulance, North Coast Family Health Center, Reference Lab, Hematology/Oncology and Home Health — are eligible for discounts of up to 50%.
This means that outpatient elective services included under the policy are: Diagnostic Imaging, Rehabilitation Services, Cardiopulmonary, Laboratory (not including reference lab), Infusion, Anti-Coagulation Clinic, and Outpatient Surgery.
The discounts offered are a graduated percentage as follows:
50% discount for payment in full within 30 days of date from service.
40% discount for payment in full within the 31st to 60th day from the date of service.
30% discount for payment in full within the 61st to 90th day from the date of service.
The effective date of the current discount policy is June 1, 2010 and is not retroactive.
Hino notes that the existing prompt pay discount policy has not changed. Local and non-local patients may receive the Prompt Pay Discount for Emergency Room accounts, ambulance accounts, inpatient accounts, North Coast Family Health Center, and Hematology/Oncology. All Reference Lab tests are still excluded from either policy; they cannot be discounted.
The following towns and zip codes are within the Mendocino Coast Health Care District: Fort Bragg 95437, Westport 95488, Caspar 95420, Little River 95456, Comptche 95427, Albion 95410, Elk 95432, and Mendocino 95460.
