Ray Hino has been selected to become Mendocino Coast District Hospital’s permanent Chief Executive Officer, beginning in early November 2006. Hino and his wife Gayle will be moving to the coast from Tehachapi, California, where he has served as CEO for the Tehachapi Valley Healthcare District Hospital since 1998.
Hino accomplished a financial turnaround for the Tehachapi hospital, taking it from an annual loss of over $1 million to its current level of profitability in excess of $300,000 for the past four consecutive years. His experience with California healthcare districts, Critical Access Hospital status, and rural community settings is a great fit for the challenges and opportunities facing MCDH.
Hino brings with him more than 28 years’ experience in executive leadership roles in hospitals, medical clinics, skilled nursing facilities and home care services. He has a proven track record in financial management, physician recruitment, strategic planning, contract negotiation, community relations and construction of facilities.
Jon Baker, Interim CEO of MCDH, participated in the recruitment process and feels confident that the best candidate was chosen. Hino rose to the top of the field of ten candidates through a recruitment process involving a series of interviews with individual Board members and hospital and medical staff leadership.
Baker explained, “Ray Hino shows the qualities that I see as most important for the long term success of MCDH: relevant experience, confidence, friendliness and approachability. He will be an asset to MCDH.”
