MCDH welcomes CFO Wayne Allen

8/18/06

Wayne Allen, Chief Financial Officer, joined MCDH in early August.

MCDH Interim CEO Jon Baker is pleased to announce the arrival of Wayne Allen as the hospital’s Chief Financial Officer.  Allen brings with him more than 30 years of experience in health care finance and operations, including positions as CFO and Chief Operating Officer in hospitals and health systems in California, Hawaii, Arizona, Nevada and Colorado.

In the short period of time he has been here, Allen expresses optimism about the future of MCDH, saying, “I sense very good community support for the hospital, and look forward to building on that foundation to make it even stronger.”

Allen’s experience is relevant to MCDH’s current situation in many respects.  He has successfully led a hospital through transition to Critical Access Hospital designation, a change currently underway at MCDH.  He has also played a key role in a hospital’s conversion to the Meditech information technology system, another major initiative that has been taking place at MCDH since 2005.

Successful contract negotiations with major insurers (such as Blue Cross and Blue Shield), health systems, vendors and unions are also a part of Allen’s background.  In past positions, he has led all levels of managers, employees and physicians to increased productivity, documentation and coding accuracy, based on a foundation of solid moral and ethical principles.  He has started joint ventures and new services at several facilities, boosting their financial performance.

“I have experienced some of the challenges and opportunities that exist at MCDH at other facilities in the past, and I am looking forward to working with this hospital team. Together, we can make a positive difference,” says Allen.

Allen sees hope in the situation at MCDH, explaining that the revenue base is good, and the addition of Critical Access Hospital status (that will increase payments from Medicare) and growing the hospital’s services will be significant factors in MCDH’s long-term success.

Allen is guided in his work by a couple of principles: passion for healthcare service, and compassion for people.  “Healthcare is a meaningful, exciting, dynamic business.  I find this avenue of community service to be always changing and challenging, rewarding, and certainly never boring,” Allen explains.

Relocating from Nevada, Allen and his wife, Bonnie, have wanted to get back to living near the ocean.  Allen explains, “I am excited to be here, and look forward to getting involved as a resident in the community.”
