Happy Thanksgiving!

To all readers of this CEO blog, I wish you all a Very Happy Thanksgiving holiday!

Yesterday Mendocino Coast District Hospital (MCDH) held its monthly Finance Committee meeting. The news was encouraging, in comparison to the financial report from the previous month (September). In October MCDH completed the month with a positive gain from operations of $24,856. When non-operating revenues are added in, the total positive bottom line for the month was $109,042.

This compares very favorably to last month’s operating loss of $260,000. This month we benefited from Non-patient (other operating) revenues of $197,447. This is a difficult time of year for our hospital due to a traditional autumn slump in patient activity and corresponding low revenues. Despite the low revenue during the period, our staff is continuing to work hard for our patients and they are working efficiently, too.

Thank you to all members of the MCDH staff. I wish you all a Very Happy Thanksgiving!

MCDH Recognizes Shannon Foreman as Employee of the Quarter

On Friday, November 2 Mendocino Coast District Hospital had its monthly “First Friday” celebration and this month we recognized the MCDH Employee of the Quarter. This quarter we are recognizing Shannon Foreman, Receptionist at North Coast Family Health Center.

Shannon is a 14-year employee of Mendocino Medical Associates, which was acquired by Mendocino Coast District Hospital earlier this year and renamed “North Coast Family Health Center.” The accolades for Shannon were impressive including many testimonials from co-workers who stated that her familiar smile and gentle demeanor are major assets for the Family Health Center. Shannon was also praised for being a stable “rock,” rarely absent, and for being a calming influence on everyone that she comes into contact. One of the staff wrote that “patients love Shannon and we do too!”

As Employee of the Quarter, Shannon received a certificate, reserved parking spot and a check for $150.00. She will also be in the running for MCDH Employee of the Year which will be announced shortly after the end of the current year. Congratulations Shannon! You are very deserving of this honor.

Halloween at MCDH

Happy Halloween from Mendocino Coast District Hospital. Halloween is one of my favorite days of the year. I always try to think of a unique costume. In the past I have been Elvis, Donald Trump, Charlie Chaplin and Arnold Schwarzenegger to name a few.

This year I came to work as the GEICO caveman. I roamed the halls with Elvis, a very large housewife (in curlers and slippers), and several witches, goblins and vampires. Through all of the pressures of working in a hospital environment and saving lives each day, it was great to see our committed team of professionals having a good time. That is what I have always strived for. A workplace that is not only a high quality provider of medical services but also a workplace that is fun to be a part of. I hope that all of you had a very Happy Halloween!
