Elizabeth Leuvano (l) and Mark Reynolds (r) are presented with the Winter 2006 Employee of the Quarter award by CEO Bryan Ballard (center).

Elizabeth Leuvano and Mark Reynolds were both named Employee of the Quarter for the January-March winter quarter.  Both of these outstanding employees received the honor, because out of all the nominations received, these two rose to the top in a tie.

Ms. Leuvano joined the MCDH Nursing Administration team in July 2001 as the Staffing Coordinator/Chief of Patient Care Services Administrative Assistant.  She has worked hard to solve many staff scheduling challenges, and is very fair with all staff.  Her teammates describe her as always willing to help, very pleasant, concise and a hard worker.  She answers all questions with a smile and participates in all hospital related activities.  Leuvano is recognized as an exceptional employee and a wonderful person.

Leuvano is enthusiastic about all aspects of her job, saying, “I am lucky because I get to work with everyone: nursing staff, managers and patients.  I love scheduling, and because I like numbers I even like doing time cards.”  Leuvano recently completed a training program called “Bridging the Gap,” which qualifies her to interpret and provide translation for Spanish-speaking patients and their families.

Mr. Reynolds joined MCDH in May 1988 as an EMT on the ambulance, and in 1991 he transferred to Sterile Processing as an Aide.  In March 1992 he transferred to the laboratory as a Lab Assistant, and continues to work in the lab as a phlebotomist.  His job entails answering phones, calling doctors’ offices, ordering lab tests, and directing “traffic” between departments.  His sense of humor, courtesy and helpfulness are appreciated by patients and co-workers alike, as he provides face-to-face service to hundreds of patients each week.

A favorite part of Reynolds’ job is answering people’s questions and interacting with patients, co-workers and physicians’ offices.  “Helping doctors to diagnose patients correctly and find the right medicines is rewarding,” says Reynolds. He adds, “I like that I am able to be a part of the healing process for our patients. I have been doing this for 18 years now.  It’s what I love to do.”

MCDH is honored to have employees like Leuvano and Reynolds serving the community.  Employee of the Quarter awardees are selected from nominations submitted by hospital employees, medical staff, volunteers and patients. Honorees are rewarded with their photo in the Hall of Fame and their name engraved on a plaque, a certificate, a check for $150, a prime parking space for a quarter, and are in the running for Employee of the Year award.
